Math in Art

Students were challenged to create an abstract piece of art using straight lines and only two colors.  They used KidPix in the computer lab to create their art.  Students were then asked to find three numbers in their pictures. First, they found the "whole," or total number of shapes in their picture. Then, they found the two "parts," or amounts of each color. Finally, they were asked to write two addition and two subtraction number sentences to illustrate the relationship between their two numbers.
