Winter is around the corner, which means we get to explore all that snowflakes has to offer. Making paper snowflakes is not just a pretty art project, it builds spacial awareness, gets students to think about geometrical shapes, and teaches students to accept mistakes as learning opportunities in art. Making paper snowflakes can be challenging, especially with little hands that sometimes cut corners that aren't meant to be cut. Therefore, we talked a lot about celebrating mistakes as opportunities to make something new by reading A Beautiful Oops. Also, it can be tempting to try to make a snowflake just like the beautiful one your friend just made. Yet, in the book Snowflake Bentley, we learned that no two snowflakes are a like, and each is worthy of admiration.
