Subtraction Strategies

Our current focus in math is exploring different ways to solve the same subtraction problem. Students are learning how to subtract, rather than memorizing facts.  This builds their number sense and understanding of algebraic principles.  This week, students reviewed the taught strategies by making their own Subtraction Strategies booklet.  Students are encouraged to try out different strategies in class and at home, to see that there are multiple ways to solve the same problem, and to discover which strategies they are most comfortable using.
