Red Ribbon Week

The week of October 22nd was Red Ribbon Week at Eisenhower.  This is a time for alcohol, tobacco, drug, and health awareness, and is observed annually schools across the United States in October. In the primary grades, we focus mostly on positive body image and self-esteem, all which are assets needed to say no to drugs.  We read Jamie Lee Curis' I'm Gonna Like Me: Letting off a Little Self-Esteem.
This cute book encourages children to love themselves for who they are, even when they are "picked last on the team" or "when my answer is wrong."  Each child is special and unique, and this book teaches kids that  it is important to like yourself because you are the only you!  After reading, students picked one thing they liked about themselves to showcase in a mini-art project.
