Have you heard your student talk about their prefrontal cortex, amygdala, or hippocampus? In Room 10, we try to create a positive classroom learning environment. When students are calm and happy, their brains are open to learning. When they are stressed or upset, learning becomes difficult. That is why we have adopted the MindUp curriculum. This curriculum empowers students by teaching them how their brain works. By understanding the functions and processes of the brain, they understand how exercises, such as mindful breathing, can help them focus and come to wise decisions. They also learn how being mindful can help them be more present and improve memory. This curriculum of 15 research based mini-lessons is used in many classrooms throughout the country and aligns with Common Core and our Project Cornerstone curriculum.
